Review: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

My Thoughts:

Shatter Me is an easy read and beautifully written novel, the moment you start reading you want be able to stop till the end.

The book is about a 17 year old girl Juliette, she has a power in her hand that with a simple touch she can kill or torture people. Ever since childhood she’s been bullied, they also conduct experiment on her and then locked her away in solitary confinement for almost a year.

Then, the government thought that they can use her as a torture machine to get information from their enemies but the problem is that she wasn’t willing to cooperative. I really thought that if she refused them that they will torture her until she gives up but they more smart if I have to say, they tried to show her what she will gain if she joined them willingly.

As always this is a love story, the main character is Adam a soldier who has been in love with Juliette since childhood when they were school classmate although he never talked to her before.  Adam has been searching for her ever since she  been taken away. I wont tell you any more you will have to read the book if you want to know; there is only one thing I will add ... this is an incredible romance between Adam and Juliette.

Overall, I really loved this book very much but there is only one thing I didn’t like which is that the beginning was very long and when the story start getting really exciting it is end.

I think this book is very unique and creative.

Rating: 4.5/5
